died. He was the best and most noble of all the Persian rulers—everyone who knew him said so. Even as a boy, he showed fairness and courage. In the king's court, where young boys watched how kings treated people, Cyrus stood out for being respectful and kind. He was also excellent at riding horses, using a bow and javelin, and hunting—even dangerous hunts! Once, a bear attacked him, but he fought bravely and won—though he got hurt and had scars for life.

When Cyrus became ruler of Lydia, Phrygia, and Cappadocia, he treated people fairly and kept his promises. He never told lies. Because of that, people trusted him and believed that a promise from Cyrus was as good as a promise from the king.
